Sisters: the shape of love
2005
51”w x 51”h
hand dyed cotton, discharged, painted, fused, quilted
After spending a week with my sisters for the first time in our adult lives I was compelled to express my feelings for them visually – but what is the shape of love? The poem, “Psalm To My Beloved”, whose author is Eunice Tietjens, created an image of what I was feeling and art began to take shape. So what is the shape of Love? Running water, fluid and changing. A peaceful brook, swift river, or mighty ocean tide… myriad drops of water becoming one.

Malachi’s Promise
2003
72”w x57”
Hand dyed painted, and printed cotton. Hand applique, machine and hand quilted.
As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, I am acutely aware of the linking of generations, of our connection to each human as brothers and sisters, the literal children of our Heavenly Father. We come individually to mothers and fathers, learn precept upon precept, then form our own unions, bring children into the world, and generations of God’s children continue.
