I had some trimmings left over from making a million step-outs for the Quilting Arts TV segments. For one of them I demonstrated how to make the slipcover for a book. You can click on the tutorials link under the “teaching” heading up there at the top of the website if you don’t want to wait for the segment to air.
So I took my strips and a little bit of Timtex. It is fusible on one side so I just ironed the strips down. No fuss, no muss.
Next I chose to be wild and “just see what happens” if I free motion quilt with the needle set to zig-zag rather than a straight stitch.
Ah – so THAT’S what happens.
The timtex is stiff enough that you can zig-zag over the edge for a nice finish without it curling or collapsing on itself.
I even like the back of this little piece. Almost like a wild heart-beat monitor printout. It’s only 6″ x 6″. Any ideas for a title?

I think Wild Heartbeat is a great title if you turn it horizontally.

You could turn it sideways and stick a few small birds on it and name it “Bird Calls”.
Wow. I have a lot of those strips from quilts I’ve squared off. They were too pretty to throw away. Now I can’t wait to stitch them together and make an iPad cover or something like that with them. Thanks for the idea.

A-Fib on Steroids
A-fib is the most common heart arrhythmia. My ekg is not quite that strange. LOL

It looks like an EKG. Or heart rythem. Heart beat
