Right now there are 30 quilts on display in Houston at the International Quilt Festival, each made in honor of one of the greatest, kindest, and most generous quilters I have met.
Libby Lehman
Libby Lehman is one of the Grande Damme’s of the quilt world. Her quilts are spectacular. She has been on the international teaching circuit for years and I have not – EVER – heard one word of anything but the highest praise associated with her name.
A while ago she had a stroke. A devastating stroke. She has been in and out of the hospital and in rehab ever since. She has a dedicated family to support her and many, many friends who are praying for her continued recovery. She also has medical bills. I can’t even imagine the bills. The quilts are being auctioned this week with a starting bid of 1k and a “buy it now” price of 5k. Here is a link to the auction: http://www.benefitbidding.com/auctions/listings/index.cfm?auction=173
So 30 x $1,000 = $30,000
or
30 x $5,000 = $150,000
Wouldn’t that nice big fat number be an amazing way to tell Libby how much she means to the quilting world?
Now – I have a little quilt in the auction. The last time I checked it was among the few with no bids. That doesn’t worry me personally – if I happened to have 1k or more to spend on a quilt I would snap up one of the other, much more appealing quilts by artists I love. I don’t think many of us do have that kind of cash to spend right now.
BUT I HAVE AN IDEA!
What if I raised a BUCKETLOAD of money for the auction, bid on my own lonely little quilt, then……
GAVE IT AWAY!?!
Here is how it works. You donate any amount you’d like. My goal is to raise 5K! If I raise more I will bid on another quilt that has no bids in this auction. (Wouldn’t it be absolutely AMAZING!!!! if I were able to bid on five or six of them?)

Thank You! A total of $70,324.00 was raised in this auction! $3,525.00 was your doing!
Every donation gets a name in the bucket. I don’t care how big or small your donation is.
Every donation over $25 will receive a signed archival print of my artwork.
Every donation over $200 will receive an original 8″x8″ work of art. I will spend all of November making more if I’m lucky enough to engender that much generosity for Libby.
She is worth it.
Here is something important to know – the quilts will be on display at the International Quilt Festival, then also at the AQS show in Paduchah Kentucky in the spring. So the quilt that will be given away will not be shipped until March.

October 31, 2014 at 11:47 amThank you. I certainly do not have enough to bid, but certainly can donate a little. Am happy that you are doing this — the opportunity to be in the drawing is just a bonus and certainly not why I donated.

October 30, 2014 at 8:06 amWhat a wonderful idea! I too can not afford $1000 at this time in my life and I have followed Libby’s roller coaster ride for the past year. She truly is an amazing and encouraging person even during her year of trials. This is a wonderful idea and I’m all in.
