A favorite speaker of mine, Dallin H. Oaks said, “[we should recognize] the reality that just because something is good is not a sufficient reason for doing it. The number of good things we can do far exceeds the time available to accomplish them. Some things are better than good, and these are the things that should command priority attention in our lives.”
None of the things I want less of are bad things. My busy life is incredibly full of very good things! The problem is being too busy, too overwhelmed, too behind the deadline schedule to enjoy those good things.
It’s good to have a business that is doing well. It’s better to have a family that is doing well. It’s best to get both in balance and spend the most time with the most important things.
Time to whittle down to the essentials. I’ve already cut my travel-for-work schedule down pretty dramatically compared to next year. I’m just plain too tired to keep up the kind of pace needed for this Calendar!
Less travel = more time to make art + more family time! I’ll be blogging a bit about all the other ways that I’m going to try to choose the best things over the good things.
