Solo Show: behind the scenes, hanging the show

July 31, 2019

I thought I would have time to write lots of blogs posts as I went along but seriously. Anyone who knows me would just laugh at the very idea. I was working every minute, up to the very last minute, just to get the artwork done. Of course I was. So perhaps this month I’ll be able to post a few more tutorials and a few more “how she made it” shots.

For now – here are some behind the scenes shots of the big, big, big day. Hanging the show.

all the things you need to hang a show
The van packed with almost all the things you need to hang a show.
The Kinard Family
All the people you need to hang a solo show!
First things first! The largest piece is hung first and everything else works off of that.
Putting the kid to work.
The anchor piece for the exhibit is 9′ wide. I do have a hanging bar for it but was given permission to use the pins I brought. Tiny little appliqué pins that hide themselves in the seams and work much better to keep this beast flat.
Dear hubby spent a couple of hours up on that ladder doing an absolutely wonderful job of hanging the river silks. I’m lucky to have him.
There are lovely lighted window display boxes in the hallway that I was able to use.
Long after the family left my lovely poet, Maura High, worked to mount her poetry on the walls. Her work adds a beautifully integral element to the visual art.

    Oh Lyric!
So great to meet you at the Sewing Expo whilst working in Richard’s Global Artisans booth!
And now I find you have art on display just a short distance from me!
You have earned yourself a new fan AND stalker. (Just wanted to be up front here 😉 )

It was absolutely lovely to meet you as well! If you are in town on Sept 18th stop by for a sit and sew in the gallery from 2-4! I’d love to see you!
