It’s really, really, really big in there. (And much, much more crowded these days.)
Every nook along the apse (the aisles on either side of the Nave -which is the long central main space) has beautiful stained glass and a little sanctuary with statues. Each is unique.
I loved Joan of Arc. Fierce woman if ever there was one.The stained glass windows on every level are beautiful. It is impossible to convey the feel and atmosphere of the place.
Is that the shadow of an angel – or the hunchback of…. Notre Dame?
I wish I could read french. Was this really a great man giving to the poor, or was it a rich guy who commissioned a statue to make people think of him as really generous. I really shouldn’t be so cynical. Really I’m not. Late at night the snarky thoughts just seem to take over my usual pollyanna view of the world.
