find your voice as an artist, magnify your vision

Magnify Your Vision

January 30, 2020
Vision is not enough – it must be combined with venture. It is not enough to stare up the steps, we must step up the stairs.
Vaclav Havel

I’ve been thinking about magnifying glasses for the past couple days. What an interesting tool. The thing you point it at isn’t changed at all by the magnifying glass. It is the light that moves through the lens and into your eye that is bent and transformed in such a way that you can see your object of focus more clearly. Tiny details become visible. Your understanding increases. You can see important things you might have missed without the magnifying glass.

It is your focus that is expanded.

What do you need to focus on?
What tool can help you expand your vision?
I made a promise to keep a watch over myself, to remain master of myself, so that I might become a sure observer.
Paul Gauguin

I invite you to examine your core purpose as an artist. Look inside and write down what you think your focus should be… for today, this week, this month, this year. I’ve already benefited greatly this year by spending a few minutes each day thinking and writing and planning where I need to focus my actions. You can read my review of my planning tool – my proverbial magnifying glass – here. Your need for clarity might be in how you create time to be in your creative space or it might be a need to understand the concepts of basic design more fully.

Can I help you find your focus?

The retreat “Finding Your Voice” might be exactly what you are looking for. I would love to have your join me there. If you can’t make it there I’ll come to you through the miracle of online courses.

Finding Your Artist’s Voice

Seven Days!
August 2 – 8 2020

There are just a few spots left so register now.

“As an artist & illustrator who also sews, I took Lyric’s 2018 workshop at Hudson River Valley Art to learn more about how I might translate my style and ideas onto textiles. I learned an abundance of techniques in just three days – from Thermofax screen printing to stamp carving to monoprinting and more! During the workshop I had plenty of time to use explore the styles of printing I was most interested in with Lyric’s expert guidance just steps away when I got myself in a pinch! In the two years since taking her workshop, I’ve continued to use the screen printing technique with my illustrations to create party buntings and a monoprint I created during the workshop now hangs on our living room wall as an art piece by itself! I foresee many years and many great products as a result of that one 3-day workshop!” – Adina
