“If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other.” Mother Teresa
In this country it can often feel as though people have forgotten civility. Granted, political campaigns have always been divisive and bitter among the politicians but it just feels uglier among the general populace and most especially in the press. We don’t often watch TV for lack of time but the few times it is on and an ad for either side comes on I deliberately turn it off. I will not feed myself lies from either side. I will not go see political “documentaries” from either side, feeling that they are simply emotion-tugging hollywood stories with only the barest base in fact.
That said – I feel incredibly blessed to live in a country where I can vote. Where there is a peaceful transfer of power every four years. Where we CAN criticize our government leaders without fear of jail time. If we don’t like our elected officials we have the responsibility to DO something about it. But we can do so with love and kindness, realizing that we ALL love our country and that we ALL belong to each other.
“Seven National Crimes: I don’t think. I don’t know. I don’t care. I am too busy. I leave well enough alone. I have no time to read and find out. I am not interested.”
-William Boetcker
Today I will…
Seek the facts. Seek truth. Care about it. Do something about it.
And I will try to do so with humility and kindness and good will and love. No personal attacks or name calling. Believing that different ideas do not equal bad or evil ideas. Listening.
Here are a couple more people who are in on the project and have some sweet ideas for making this world a better place. If you have a link you’d like me to add – let me know.
Look at what Hannah Koch is doing both locally and with one of my favorite global charities.
Jane LaFazio is still in it – listing some projects for you to get involved in.
Deborah Stanley is on board too.
