Blog giveaway work in progress

Work in Progress & giveaway winner

December 16, 2013

Doing some machine stitching today. I’ll have lots of hand stitching to play with while everyone is home for Christmas. It’s nice to have easy portable things to do.

Congratulations to Barbara Triscari who is the winner of Melinda Bula’s lovely Summer Rose pattern. There are still more giveaways to come and several before this left open.

And I have a silly question for those of you who get this blog delivered to your email – do you get the same post delivered over again every time I update it? I often will go back and change or edit a post several times over the first few days that it is up. I’d hate it if you were getting flooded with that nonsense. ๐Ÿ™‚

I have loved the works of Vincent Van Gogh since I was a young girl. I love the movement, lines and seemingly simple themes. Certainly, the lines and texture are similar to quilted art, and maybe that is why I’m drawn to it. I was lucky enough to visit Auvers sur Oise, France this summer, where he lived for three months before he died, completing (I think) 80 paintings in that short time, almost one per day. He and his brother are also buried there. The landscape, town and everything about the area was inspiring and charming at the same time. He captured all in his work.

I just get the blog once. My favorite master artist is Georgia O’Keefe. I love her work and I aspire to that level of achievement in my chosen medium which is fabric.

    I only get one email.

It’s hard to pick just one artist as a favorite. I’m drawn to van Gogh, even his muted palettes vibrate. Mary Cassatt did lovely portraits of homey scenes. Botticelli and other Renaissance painters who used religious symbolism intrigue me. I’m drawn to the interplay of color and pattern. Who is your favorite old master?

I think what I learn from them is that each of us has our own voice and we all have something worth saying.

Thank you for all your posts. It does take time and effort, but it’s really nice to “talk” to you.
