Taking Inventory

Sometimes life goes by in a blur. I remember having babies and toddlers at home and time dragging on and on and on. Since the few youngest have been in high school, the weeks disappear and we look at each other and blink and it’s Monday again.

And I seriously can’t think of what I’ve done this year. Honestly, I’ve just spent a good 20 minutes trying to think of a single artwork I’ve finished and nothing is coming to mind. That could be depressing. Or I could look at it as a year where I did – other – things.

Of course I had to look at my calendar, and read through the little log-book that I (very sporadically) record what I’ve done each business day. But it kinda feels good to make a list. This is going to be in the absolutely no-judgment zone. It’s entirely neutral. It’s just a list.

Why don’t you make a list with me. Write down the work you’ve started and/or finished. Write down as many things that you’ve learned as you can remember.

Random List of Things I did in 2022

• Converted our dining room into a hospital room and back again and didn’t completely lose my mind even though we had temporary pets along with their cat litter boxes in the family room.
• Had a solo show tour with the Mancuso quilt shows for an entire year.
• Built a new website for the Academy for Virtual Teaching (and continually revised it)
• Edited several studio tour videos for Global Quilt Connection.
• Put together 4!!! 6hr Sampler Platter events for Global Quilt Connection (couldn’t have accomplished any of that without Sue and Mel, my business partners.)
• Ran two successful live Virtual Teaching Masterclasses.
• Gave a LOT of virtual lectures and workshops.
• Travelled for in-person teaching for the first time in a few years.
• Visited the beach with a friend.
• Visited my daughter in SLC before she moved abroad.
• Road tripped from NC on a giant loop around the country. It’s a really big country.
• Visited a lot of museums.
• Took major courses in Tax for Artists, Marketing, Web development.
• Created two new online courses (for the Academy for Virtual Teaching)
• Learned Canva, New Zenler, and Trello online software platforms and tools.
• Tried out Facebook ads.
• Built new Global Quilt Connection website
• Started building and streamlining systems for all 3 business I’m running.
